Racing and rallying DAFs
To help improve the unfair image of DAFs and the Variomatic, the company went to considerable lengths to showwhat could be done!

As well as this Formula 3 racing car, DAF entered numerous rallys and were very successful in rallycross, using 4-wheel-drive DAF 555 coupes.

DAF also took part in the 1968 London-Sydney Marathon using 55's. This event was repeated
in 1993 and the original 1968 entrant completed the re-run.

OSI/DAF City Car. This was a design study by DAF and the OSI Design company of Italy in 1966. Foreseeing city traffic congestion in the future, the plan was to design a car that although small, had plenty of room inside and was practical. Naturally it had Variomatic transmission.

This was the result. Unfortunately it did not go into production, although surprisingly, Corgi Toys produced a very detailed model.  This prototype is on show at the DAF Museum in Eindhoven.

DAF Kini - a bit of fun for the Dutch Royal Family!

DAF Project P900, which should have been the
DAF 77, but of course, became the Volvo
343/345/340 (pic taken from "40 Years of DAF and
Variomatic cars" the Memoirs of J van der Brugghen)

DAF Kalmar - a van based on the DAF 44 produced in Sweden for the Swedish Post Office

DAF Siluro - what a car!  A one-off designed by Michelotti, based on the 55 coupe.  This car has been restored and is now on show at the DAF Museum
